In some configurations, having the ORACLE_HOME or TNS_ADMIN environment variables pointing to a remote device that is not available or responsive can make starting DbVisualizer hang until there is a network time-out, which can be many minutes in some configurations. If you notice slow startups, check the values of these two environment variables and reset or correct the paths if they point to an unavailable device.
