Greg,
Have you updated Java recently?
The error indicate that the Java installation is broken.
Does the following file exist?
JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/zi/ZoneInfoMappings
I suggest you re-install Java and see if it helps.
Regards
Roger

Re: suddenly can't launch dbvis
yes , usual daily update, i've tried to reinstall java, rollback to 1.6xxxx - doesn't help, but openoffcie work's fine, it uses jvm to, even just faster on 1.7xxx, rigtht now i'll check the file....
$ locate ZoneInfoMappings
/usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-common/jre/lib/zi/ZoneInfoMappings
/usr/share/javazi/ZoneInfoMappings

Re: suddenly can't launch dbvis
:) find a solution
/usr/share/javazi/ZoneInfoMappings - it's a symlink and it was dead
i've just made a new symlink and it works:
ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-common/jre/lib/zi/ZoneInfoMappings /usr/share/javazi/ZoneInfoMappings
