Problem with Bar charts

I have an odd problem whereby I cannot see the bars for bar charts (same for stacked bars). I am not finding any other forum posts like this, so I assume it works for everyone else and something is just whacky with my computer and/or configuration. I can see line charts, areas and pies, just not bar charts. What is really weird is that the y-axis changes scale +*correctly*+ as I select different series. Any idea where I might look in my configuration to actually see the bars? I noticed that a recent update was available which now fixes the problem. I was using 9.1.7 (downloaded on Friday), but the 9.1.8 update now shows me bars.
