Please try with the Oracle Java VM, available at http://java.com. We occasionally get reports about issues with the OpenJDK VM and switching to the Oracle Java VM usually solves them.

Ubuntu 16.04LTS 64-bit. DbVisualizer 9.5.2. I purchased a license.
