Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
on german WinXP, SP2, DBVis 5.1.1.8 does not accept 5.1 licenses... (says "The license key doesn't allow use") and writes dbvis.log with content "File icons/title_buttons_metal.gif not found". Bye, Peter

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available

With version 5.1.1.8 and 5.1.1.7 I cannot see any package bodies:

An error occured while executing the database request for:
Oracle
Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production
With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options
JServer Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production
Oracle JDBC driver
10.2.0.2.0

Short message:
3 >= 3

The command that caused the problem:
Could not read FIS_WSE

Details:
   Type: java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException

Message:
3 >= 3

System Information:
Product: DbVisualizer Personal 5.1.1.8
Build: #1205 (2007/05/28 10:01)
Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM
Java Version: 1.6.0-rc-b104
Java Vendor: Sun Microsystems Inc.
OS Name: Windows XP
OS Arch: x86
OS Version: 5.1

What might be causing this?

Thanks,

Benny

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Benny, Is this reproducible for any package body or just some specific? "Could not read FIS_WSE" is not produced by DbVisualizer so it must be coming from the driver/database. Did this work in previous versions of DbVisualizer? I cannot get any error with: Oracle Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production With the Partitioning, OLAP and Oracle Data Mining options JServer Release 9.2.0.1.0 - Production Oracle JDBC driver 10.2.0.2.0 Regards Roger

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Roger,

I have tried this with two databases, Oracle 9i and Oracle 10g, and I think it was using the sys account.

The error occurred with DBVisualizer 5.1.1.8 and 5.1.1.7.

I will do some more testing tomorrow and will provide you with more details.

Regards,

Benny

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Roger,

here's a bug with Informix 9.40 and 9.21
When I try to alter a table which has a DateTime Column, I get the following debug output:

Unknown data type found: DATETIME YEAR TO SECOND

also is the "data type" column empty in the following window.

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Roger,

I had another look at the issue with respect to the pl/sql code.

It looks like I can't view the sources of package bodies in Oracle databases on linux. It doesn't matter what database version I am connected to (I tested with Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g). The other source (package specs, functions, procedures) are no problem.
For our Windows based databases I can see all sources. I only have Oracle 8i and Oracle 9i on Windows.

regards,

Benny

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Benny,

I just tested with oracle 9i on Solaris, 10gR2 on Solaris and linux and I was able to see all sources. What accounts/privileges do you use in the databases that fail to show you their package bodies ?

Ronald

I sometimes get:

No idea what it means.

From now on this keeps popping up when I click on any subtree in the object tree. I think the root cause is a network failure but the code should handle such an interruption and mark the connection as closed.

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Ronald, Is DbVisualizer installed on a network drive that is temporarily unavailable? Regards Roger

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hee, yes, I think I also lost that one ....(sofar was only thinking about lost database connections). dbvis really is a dead piece of meat in memory. I was able to 'close' all connections but a normal 'quit' was no longer possible.

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Ronald, This situation isn't gracefully handled currently since it is a major inconsistency whereas some pieces of the application cannot be loaded (because of environment problems). I think we can handle this specific situation better by telling a serious problem occurred and then let the user press an "Exit" button to leave DbVis. Regards Roger

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Dirk, Thanks for reporting the problem with Alter Table for an Informix table containing DATETIME columns (the same problem exists for INTERVAL columns). This will be fixed in the next release, along with a fix for another problem I found while looking into this: the size/reserved numbers for a non-nullable VARCHAR column, when declared as "VARCHAR(size, reserved)", is invalid in Alter Table. Thanks, Hans

Re: DbVisualizer 5.1.1.8 now available
Hi Ronald,

In most cases I was logged in under sys, in other cases as schema owner.
